EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS

How to do Equivalent fractions

Equivalent fractions are fractions that have the same value or represent the same part of an object. If a pie is cut into two pieces, each piece is also one-half of the pie. If a pie is cut into 4 pieces, then two pieces represent the same amount of pie that 1/2 did. We say that 1/2 is equivalent to 2/4.

Equivalent Fractions have the same value, even though they may look different. When you multiply or divide both the top and bottom by the same number, the fraction keeps it's value.

Equivalent fractions example: ½ = 2/4 = 4/8

Today we have many advanced technologies through which we can learn what we want. Online Equivalent fractions sessions, which teaches how to do equivalent fractions.

Important points to remember:

The top and bottom of the + always be a whole number.

So, the number you pick to divide by must always divide evenly (ie no remainders) for both the top and bottom numbers.

You only multiply or divide, never add or subtract, to get an equivalent fraction.
